About the role
As Creative Director you’ll lead the visual narrative for Australian House & Garden. This hands-on role sits at the intersection of editorial excellence and cutting-edge design, driving content innovation across print, digital and social platforms.
You’ll set and execute the creative agenda across key content pillars including interior design, decorating, architecture, art, styling, shopping, food, gardening and travel, ensuring a cohesive and distinctive brand expression. Working closely with editorial, you’ll influence how audiences engage with our content while building and mentoring a high-performing creative team within Sydney’s dynamic media landscape.
This role reports to the Editor of Australian House & Garden.
Duties include
- Collaborating with the editor and the editorial team on creative strategy and design direction of omnichannel editorial, plus commercial opportunities and outcomes.
- Conceptualising and executing original photographic shoot concepts, including location and in-studio shoots.
- Participating in broader Are Media strategy planning including regular workshops and meetings.
- This is a hands-on role that involves daily cross-platform design work, liaison with internal and external stakeholders (including commercial partners), design direction on flagship tentpoles such as the Top 50 Room awards program, books and one-shots.
- The successful candidate will be required to represent the brand at relevant industry and partner events.
Skills and experience
- 7+ years creative experience with experience in a senior leadership role within media, publishing or advertising.
- Proven track record of managing and motivating creative teams, conceptualising creative briefs and delivering high-impact content in collaboration with editorial and commercial teams.
- Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, After Effects)Strong understanding of digital content creation, social media platforms and emerging technologies.
- Experience in a fast-paced magazine or lifestyle brand creative development, including working to regular deadlines.
- Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications or related creative field.
- Experience with video production and motion graphics.
- Knowledge of web design principles and UX/UI concepts.
- Previous experience in Australian homes/lifestyle/design media landscape is an advantage
