About the role

The Technology Group in Are Media is responsible for delivering and maintaining the technology components of all projects across the business. The team provides stakeholders with the expertise to help them make informed decisions.

We have embarked on a project to migrate our branded sites from legacy CMS systems to WordPress. We are looking for a WordPress Developer to play a key role in this project and to assist with the maintenance and enhancement of our other WordPress based sites such as our corporate website.

Duties

Reporting to the IT Development Manager, you will:

  • Be responsible for the development and technical quality of our WordPress based applications and associated integrations.
  • Ensure technology solutions meet business requirements within agreed time and budget constraints.
  • Contribute to team estimation of development work, assess requirements for completeness and clarify where required.
  • Provide 2nd level support for production systems.
  • Support the Agile delivery processes currently in use.

Skills and experience

  • At least 12 months' commercial experience building WordPress websites, including custom theme development and plugin customization.
  • Experience with using JavaScript frameworks such as React.
  • Exposure to MySQL database design and writing SQL.
  • Familiarity with responsive design principles and mobile-first development.
  • Experience integrating with 3rd party APIs such as REST services.
  • An understanding of object-oriented paradigms, software design patterns and software development principles such as DRY, KISS and SOLID.
  • Good communication skills, and attention to detail.
  • Experience with the WP Engine cloud hosting platform is a bonus.
