About the role
Entertainment content producers, your dream job has just landed! Are you obsessed with reality TV, celebs and the royals? Never missed an episode of MAFS or The Block? And love seeing a story YOU broke go viral? If this sounds like you, we want to hear from you!
In this rare and exciting opportunity, Australia’s best celebrity magazine, New Idea, is looking for a talented, high-energy Digital Editor to run our digital platform, social accounts and newsletters. This is a hands-on leadership role. Managing a team of two, you'll own the daily rhythm of the site, drive page views and social engagement across New Idea and New Idea Food, and be accountable for traffic targets and audience growth. You’ll be responsible for e-commerce performance, headlines and visuals that stop the scroll, mentoring writers and working with networks, publicists, contacts and talent.
Working alongside New Idea’s print Editor, you’ll bridge the gap between weekly magazine cycles and minute-by-minute breaking news, helping to grow the digital future of one of the country's most iconic entertainment brands.
Duties
- The Daily Rhythm & News Cycle: Monitor the news cycle obsessively and manage the daily digital content plan. Respond fast to breaking celebrity news, and craft original, scroll-stopping angles that help achieve traffic goals.
- Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead and upskill a small, dedicated team and support print team members with digital output. Set clear direction, edit, provide constructive feedback, lift copy standards, and build a collaborative, high-energy newsroom culture.
- Print-to-Digital Integration: Work collaboratively with the print editorial team to adapt, serialise, and optimise legacy brand content and major print exclusives for a real-time digital audience.
- Multi-Platform Content Creation: Craft compelling, SEO-optimised copy for web, social channels, and EDMs in our brand’s distinct style and voice.
- Social Video Strategy: Create, edit, and optimise engaging video content for social platforms - ranging from short-form storytelling, reviews and trend-led clips to polished edits that actively grow audience engagement and reach.
- Commercial & E-Commerce Growth: Drive affiliate revenue performance across both New Idea and New Idea Food. Oversee the production of shoppable stories, product roundups, and celebrity style-steals, turning commercial awareness into tangible revenue.
- Data-Driven Strategy: Use analytics to inform daily content strategy, refine your approach, and uncover new traffic opportunities. You'll report on weekly performance and confidently turn data insights into action.
- Legal Gatekeeping & Accuracy: Ensure all digital copy is accurate, legally sound, and maintains exceptional punctuation and grammar.
Skills and experience
- Solid journalism background, with 4-6 years’ experience in digital content creation, within the celebrity or entertainment industry – ideally in a fast-paced newsroom.
- Proven track record driving page views, audience growth and social engagement.
- Sharp editorial judgement, excellent news sense and a strong understanding of engaging storytelling and headlines to captivate our audience
