About the role

Are Media’s Content & Creative Studio sits within the Commercial Product & Strategy team, working with some of the biggest magazine brands in the country including Gourmet Traveller, marie claire, Who, House & Garden, BELLE, The Australian Women’s Weekly, Country Style and Home Beautiful.

We are currently looking to build out our dedicated design team for a key interiors’ client. We are looking for a talented Art Director who is as comfortable directing a shoot as they are on Photoshop. You will be able to clearly articulate a vision from mock to executed print design with endless ideas and innovative ways to approach food and interiors content. Your attention to detail will be second to none and your creative vision will be rich and diverse. Reporting into the Senior Creative Lead you will be a team player, working alongside other art directors and designers to bring this content to life every month. Your design aesthetic, photography experience, interiors and trends knowledge will set you apart.

You are very comfortable working on one project for weeks at a time but you don’t mind jumping in to help on another urgent shoot or project if required. You’re positive and enthusiastic, and never precious about feedback. Bringing a vision to life is a challenge – once you’ve found your location, or designed a set build you can layer it with detail and style from the ground up, reflecting current trends and styles. You are comfortable working with large production budgets and most importantly you have a positive attitude, no matter what the day brings. Your work will come to life in multi-page formats and be published in our homes and food portfolio across print, digital and social.

Not quite at this level with art direction but would like to be? Or perhaps you’re a total gun with Photoshop – then we want to hear from you too!

Duties

  • Responsible for the delivery of design work in response to briefs allocated for this client
  • Collaboration and ideation with your fellow team members and the account directors
  • Development of strong, multipage on-trend visual solutions for large and small appliances, furniture and outdoor concepts.
  • Directing photo shoots
  • Briefing set builders, photographers and stylists
  • Choosing locations
  • Creating finished artwork from mock to print ready

Skills and experience

  • Candidates will need design qualifications and demonstrated experience in a media, environment.
  • A portfolio showing a range of high end and premium work across food and interiors
  • Outstanding InDesign and Photoshop abilities
  • Outstanding visual referencing capabilities
  • Magazine experience considered favourably
