Deputy Editor – Woman’s Day

Are Media | Auckland-based

Are Media is a diverse, fast-moving, constantly evolving multi-platform media business with a brilliant team of people all bringing their passion and creativity together in order to produce great products that inform and inspire others. Our brands include – Woman's Day, New Zealand Woman's Weekly, Your Home & Garden, Kia Ora and The New Zealand Listener.

Ready to step up and help lead the charge at New Zealand’s number one weekly title? Woman’s Day – the country’s go-to for must-read celebrity news, real-life drama, royals, and feel-good inspiration – is on the hunt for a sharp, confident, and innovative Deputy Editor to join our high-performing editorial team.

This is an exciting and satisfying role for someone who lives and breathes celebrity, thrives on fast-moving deadlines, and can effortlessly shift from breaking entertainment news to crafting compelling real-life features and lifestyle content – all while keeping a finger firmly on the pulse of what Kiwi women want.

About the role:

As Deputy Editor, you'll work alongside the Editor to shape the editorial vision of Woman’s Day, overseeing everything from cover-worthy celebrity interviews to polished page layouts. You'll assist with story ideation, create your own omnichannel features, commission standout content, contribute to commercial executions and work on brand extensions. You'll have a strong presence across editorial meetings, know how to handle breaking stories, and be confident stepping into the Editor’s chair when required.

You’ll also collaborate closely with our art, digital, shopping and commercial teams to ensure every story – whether it’s a royal scandal, a heart-tugging exclusive, an inspiring fashion spread or midweek recipe – lands with impact across platforms.

You’ll need to bring:

  • Proven editorial experience, ideally in a fast-paced weekly or daily environment.
  • Excellent news sense and instinct for what makes a Woman’s Day story unique.
  • Strong leadership ability – you know how to inspire, mentor, and drive a team
  • Exceptional ideation, writing, editing and commissioning skills
  • A network of useful contacts and the hustle to chase a story down
  • Digital and social media savvy
  • The initiative, curiosity and humour to thrive in a world where no two issues – or days – are the same

At Are Media, we’re passionate about producing content that informs, entertains and connects with 1.8 million New Zealanders.

Are Media is a values-based company committed to a diverse, respectful, collaborative and inclusive workplace. We know and value the success this brings for everyone. We welcome and encourage applications from diverse backgrounds
