About the role
This is a part-time role, two days per week (ideally Monday and Wednesday. Reporting to the WHO Editor, the key focus will be editing content, fitting and fact-checking copy, checking proofs and dyelines, with occasional writing. It would suit an experienced copy editor who is calm, organised, and able to work independently while becoming part of a passionate and highly driven team.
Working alongside senior editorial staff, you’ll help maintain the tone and style of the brand, attend production meetings, and ensure editorial pages are ready for deadline. The role includes some digital responsibilities, such as uploading print-published content and optimising it for online. Training will be provided in all aspects of digital content creation and use of our platforms.
Duties
- Copy fitting using InCopy to finalise layouts
- Ensuring fact-checking is thorough and accurate
- Maintaining brand tone and written style
- Provide copy feedback to both staff and freelance contributor
- Responsible for checking content with internal and external stakeholders (writers, editors, pic and design teams)
- Working with Editor on omnichannel content across print, digital and social channels, as needed
- SEO knowledge to optimize digital content highly regarded
Skills and experience
- 3+ years editorial experience including sub-editing/copy editing
- A genuine passion for celebrity and entertainment magazine content in print and online
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to change tone and style to match news/feature/interview/celebrity or lifestyle content
- Creative thinker with the ability to solve problems and work independently
- Professional, mature and decisive in approach
- Ability to manage multi-disciplinary tasks and work to tight deadlines in a fast-paced, changing environment
- Proficiency in copy editing software, in particular InCopy
