Deputy Editor – New Zealand Woman’s Weekly
Are Media | Auckland

Working within Are Media, this is a rare and exciting opportunity for a senior editorial professional who understands the power of storytelling and has a genuine connection to the lives of New Zealand women.

Reporting to the Editor, the Deputy Editor plays a key role in shaping and delivering the content each week – from generating compelling story ideas and commissioning writers, to editing features and helping steer the overall workflow of the publication.

You will have a deep understanding of the news cycle, have strong relationships with talent and industry contacts, plus bring a sharp editorial instinct for the stories New Zealanders want to read right now.

This role also helps drive the brand across multiple platforms, ensuring our stories resonate across print, digital and social channels while maintaining the warmth, authority and integrity The Weekly is known and trusted for.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working with the Editor to plan and execute the weekly editorial line-up
  • Generating and executing exclusive, engaging features
  • Commissioning and editing high-quality stories that reflect The Weekly’s voice and values
  • Building strong relationships with talent, contributors and industry contacts.
  • Ensuring strong content pipelines and workflow management.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has significant editorial experience with excellent feature writing and copy-editing skills.
  • Brings an existing contact book along with the ability to build strong relationships and networks.
  • Has a deep understanding of New Zealand audiences and the issues that matter to them
  • Brings energy, creativity and sound news judgement
  • Thrives in a fast-paced weekly publishing environment and has a strong attention to detail
  • Is highly organised and able to manage multiple deadlines
  • Is collaborative, positive and solutions-focused
