About the role

An exciting opportunity to join the New Zealand Woman’s Weekly team, the writer role is an integral part within a tight knit omnichannel team on the country's most read woman’s title. You will be responsible for sourcing and crafting features that engage almost half a million readers every week.

From high-profile celebrity interviews to heartwarming real-life stories, news events, lifestyle trends and international showbiz buzz, our content entertains, informs, influences and inspires.

We are looking for someone who thrives on finding and creating those engaging stories then delivering them with flair and journalistic integrity.

It is a dynamic role in which no two weeks will be the same. One day you may be interviewing a celebrity or sports star about their big move. The next, sharing an extraordinary story of survival against the odds or examining an issue affecting everyday New Zealanders.

We are seeking a proactive individual who is confident taking on new challenges and does so with enthusiasm. This role offers excellent opportunities for professional development and learning.

Duties

  • Reporting to the Editor, the writer role will support the content strategy for the brand working collaboratively to achieve set objectives and KPIs.
  • Ideate, pitch, secure and deliver high-quality, highly engaging content across key editorial pillars and platforms
  • Keep your finger on the pulse of international showbiz, lifestyle trends and the issues that resonate with Kiwi readers and create features which reflect that.
  • Collaborate with a passionate, experienced team and contribute to a positive, fast-paced newsroom culture.
  • Manage multiple deadlines and network contacts with professionalism and creativity.

Skills and experience

  • A skilled writer, ideally with a strong background in journalism, content creation or communications.
  • Curious, confident and quick to spot a good story and exclusive angle.
  • Organised, deadline-driven, able to manage and deliver multiple projects at once.
  • A team player who values collaboration and understands their role in driving the success of a brand.
  • Someone with a sharp eye for detail and a commitment to it.
  • An understanding how content performs across different platforms – from print to socials to web – and the ability to enhance content for multi-platform delivery.
  • A foundational Adobe and Canva skill base.

Are Media is committed to a diverse, respectful, collaborative & inclusive workplace. We know & value the success this brings for everyone and we welcome & encourage applications from diverse backgrounds.  When you apply, please let us know of any reasonable adjustments you may need during the interview process.
