About the role

Do you love hearing remarkable stories about everyday people? Are you obsessed with true crime? Have you got a passion for magazines in print and online? If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!

In this rare and exciting opportunity, Australia’s best real-life magazine, Take 5, is looking for a hardworking and talented Features Writer to join its friendly team. You’ll be responsible for sourcing, interviewing and producing real life stories for Take 5 and its sister publication in New Zealand, Lucky Break. Writing in our house style, you’ll make our readers laugh and cry with your engaging copy. You’ll be in your element coming up with unique and jaw dropping feature ideas and thrive off of seeing them appear on the cover.

The ideal candidate will have at least 18 months’ experience as a journalist, with experience in magazines preferred but not essential.

You’re welcome in the office every day, but you have the option to work from home one day a week.

The role

Responsibilities include:

  • Reporting to the Features Editor, you will source the best real life stories for the magazine and sign them up exclusively for us
  • Turn copy around to weekly deadlines in the magazine’s style and tone
  • Contribute to our website, EDM and social media channels to grow brand awareness and engagement

Skills and experience you will need:

  • Solid journalism background, ideally with some experience on a local or online newspaper
  • Excellent news sense and an understanding of issues that matter to everyday Australian women
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Outstanding communication skills, highly-organised with an eye for accuracy and detail
