About the role 

The Deputy Editor plays a key leadership role in managing editorial operations and supporting omnichannel workflows. This role is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day production of the weekly print magazine, ensuring content is delivered on time, to the highest quality, and aligned with the editorial vision.

Leading a dynamic team of content producers, copy editors, and editors, the Deputy Editor fosters a collaborative, efficient, and innovative work environment while ensuring high standards of creativity, accuracy, and content excellence.

Duties

  • Creating & Conceptualising: Oversee content production, mentor team members, commission freelancers, edit and proof content, and create social media assets.
  • Team Leadership: Set team direction, manage performance, drive engagement, and implement innovation while aligning with company strategy.
  • Leading Workflows & Enterprising: Identify content opportunities, build industry relationships, provide mentorship, conduct performance reviews, and support training.
  • Organising & Executing: Manage editorial calendars, optimise content for SEO and audience engagement, and ensure strategic content alignment. Maintain best practice workflows, keep content within budget, and meet deadlines for campaigns and events. 

Skills and experience  

  • Demonstrated experience in omnichannel content creation and/or publishing
  • Experience with ContentStation, Canva, Indesign and digital publishing platforms
  • Experience with SEO
  • Strong content ideation skills, including commerce content
  • Strong editorial judgement, making decisions on content that drives results
  • Experience leading teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong interpersonal skills; The ability to manage stakeholder relationships effectively
